El Paso, TX — January 18, 2025, three people were injured following a wrong-way car accident at around 1:48 a.m. along Interstate 10.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the crash happened on westbound lanes of the interstate near the Missouri Avenue exit.
It appears that a Chevy Colorado somehow got onto the interstate going the wrong direction. As a result, the Colorado ended up crashing with an oncoming Toyota CHR-1. As a result, one person sustained serious injuries. Two others had at least minor injuries.
Right now, details suggest alcohol was a possible factor. Additional details about the accident are unavailable.

Frankly, it would be unusual if this accident didn’t involve alcohol. The vast majority of wrong-way accidents happen because someone was highly intoxicated and unaware of their surroundings, leading them to ignore warning signs and get on the wrong side of the road.
What makes this particularly important is that someone who is intoxicated enough to get on the wrong side of the road may have been unlawfully over-served by a local alcohol provider. That could mean there’s a negligent bar or similar establishment responsible for contributing to the accident.
Simply put, Texas law says alcohol providers can be held accountable if they over-serve someone who is obviously intoxicated, and it leads to them getting themselves or someone else hurt. This can result in potential criminal investigations, fines, suspended licenses, or liability for the resulting injuries.
Is that something authorities have looked into here? Unfortunately, I’ve handled countless alcohol-related accident cases where authorities didn’t bother investigating beyond the crash itself. That could mean there’s more to this story that needs independent investigations to properly address.
