How Did This Accident Occur?
There certainly isn’t enough information in these preliminary OSHA statements to draw any conclusions. What I will say is that Texas has uniquely challenging work fatality laws. It’s important for a worker’s loved ones to know what paths are available to them early on so they can make sure investigations are getting them the evidence they need to navigate that path. Unfortunately, that’s rarely ever a priority for OSHA. They’re focused on their own tasks, which means families might be left in the dark for months unless independent investigators work to keep them in the loop. If OSHA was being more of an open book here, though, that would be encouraging to hear.
