Authorities said a man was hit by two southbound vehicles near mile marker 219. He had been standing in the road after he apparently was involved in a motorcycle accident.

The man, 23-year-old Kyle resident William Robert Lujan, died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to authorities.

How Did This Accident Occur?

It looks like there may be two crashes for authorities to investigate here: the one that killed this Kyle man and the one that made him a pedestrian in the first place.

Both occurrences leave his family facing a lot of unanswered questions. What caused his motorcycle to crash? Did it have a mechanical issue? After the crash, why was he in the road? Was the area well lit? Could the drivers have avoided hitting him?

A thorough investigation should provide a clear picture of what happened on I-35, once authorities have gone over physical evidence, witness statements, data from the vehicles and any available video footage. Cell phone records could show what each driver was doing at the time of the crash.

Investigators also should push for a full mechanical inspection of the motorcycle, because motorcycles are especially vulnerable to malfunctions.
