Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
One of my concerns following any motorcycle accident is whether or not authorities were thorough in their investigations. Frankly, a lot of people are biased against motorcyclists, and authorities aren’t exempt from this. While they might be able to set that bias aside for their investigations, it’s natural for people to worry that their side of the story won’t be told.
That’s one of the reasons independent investigators end up handling a lot of crashes like this. If people are worried that authorities aren’t giving a crash the attention it deserves, they would reasonably want a second set of eyes looking things over to make sure nothing important slips through the cracks. Sometimes, that helps to confirm that authorities already did a good job. Other times, they catch important details authorities missed. Either way, in my experience, people just want to know they’re getting the whole story. Hopefully that happened here.
