Accident Report
March 9, 2026, Michael Boatman and Wanda Boatman were injured after an 18-wheeler accident at around 4:52 p.m. along South 1st Street.
According to officials, the accident happened off the intersection of South 1st (US 59) and College Drive, south of town.
It appears that 57-year-old Michael Boatman, 86-year-old Wanda Boatman, and two others were in a northbound Honda Odyssey. A Volvo tractor-trailer was going the same direction. Authorities say that the vehicles crossed paths and collided.
Due to the collision, Michael Boatman and Wanda Boatman reportedly had serious injuries. No other injuries were reported. At this time, additional details are unavailable.
How Did This Accident Occur?
When two vehicles going the same direction collide, it’s often the result of distracted driving. That’s obviously worth attention here, but less common factors also need to be considered thoroughly.
It could be that a vehicle pulled out in front of the other. One of them might not have had working brake lights. One may have brake-checked the other or stopped suddenly due to something in the roadway. The crash may have happened due to worn or defective brakes or tires. This all takes careful analysis to properly rule out, and that isn’t something I often see authorities handle on their own.
If they’ve done so here, and the victims and families feel they’re getting the answers they need, then that would be good to hear. But I’ve handled hundreds of commercial vehicle accident cases that requires independent investigations. It wouldn’t at all be unusual if that proved necessary here, as well.
