How Did This Accident Occur?
Most people, when they hear about single-vehicle motorcycle accidents, are quick to cast blame on the rider and just move on. I’m not about to jump to conclusions like that, though. Why? Because, over the three decades in which I have been in this line of business, I have come to believe that motorcyclists get a bad rap. I have seen plenty of similar cases in which evidence that went against the grain of stereotype ended up being unearthed through thorough investigation.
To be clear, I’m not insinuating that I have more information about this specific accident than anyone else outside of the investigation does. I just want to point out that, hypothetically, the accident could have been caused by something gone wrong with the motorcycle itself. Motorcycles, while smaller than passenger vehicles, are still complex machines. What if the wreck was a result of a steering mechanism issue? Or maybe it had a tire blowout? I’m aware that these things are not very likely, but neither are they outside of the realm of possibility.
An in-depth vehicle inspection would be able to bring to light any mechanical malfunctions or product defects that played a role in the wreck. Hopefully investigators—whether the authorities or a third party—get one done. After all, the loved ones left behind by the victim deserve a clear and detailed understanding as to not only how it happened, but why. That kind of clarity—real answers backed by solid evidence—just can’t be provided by surface-level investigation.
