Dallas, TX — May 26, 2024, Veronica Begay and two others were injured following an alleged DWI accident at around 9:15 p.m. on Stan Schlueter.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the accident happened near the intersection of West Stan Schlueter Loop and Judson Avenue.
According to officials, 48-year-old Veronica Begay and two teenagers were in a Honda HR-V going westbound on Stan Schlueter. A Volkswagen Atlas reportedly did not control speed and crashed into the back of Begay’s Honda. This sent the Honda into oncoming lanes, leading to a third driver swerving into the ditch. As a result the accident, Begay and a 17-year-old in her vehicle had serious injuries. Another passenger had moderate injuries.

At this time, authorities allege that the Volkswagen driver had been drinking, and they recommended charges for DWI. If that’s true, then hopefully authorities also looked into where the alcohol came from. If it’s found that a bar or similar establishment illegally over-served someone who caused an accident, they can also be responsible for their role in the crash.
Unfortunately, this isn’t something authorities often prioritize. I’ve had hundreds of cases against negligent alcohol providers, and I rarely see authorities conduct their own criminal investigations unless we give them evidence we uncovered in our investigations. Even then, there were times authorities still dropped the ball, and the only reason the alcohol provider faced consequences at all was because the victims wanted a second set of eyes to look over the details. Maybe authorities here have been more thorough behind the scenes, but it wouldn’t surprise me if there was more to this story.
