How Did This Accident Occur?
The primary question investigators must answer after this crash is why the GMC pickup left the road. Was the driver fatigued or distracted? Did another vehicle force it to swerve unexpectedly? Did the pickup have a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism?
Those are the questions that investigators should keep in mind as they work to reconstruct this accident. The answers will come from facts unearthed in their probe, as they pore over physical evidence, witness statements, data from the vehicle and any available video footage. Cell phone records could show what the driver was doing before the crash.
An independent expert likely will be needed if investigators suspect a mechanical defect contributed to this accident. Most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training to conduct the kind of forensic examination needed to diagnose that kind of issue, in my experience.
A thorough investigation should provide a clear picture of what happened on State Highway 31 for those affected by this crash.
