How Did This Accident Occur?
A lot of people see OSHA involved in something and assume there were problems going on at a workplace. That’s often true, but sometimes authorities look into unavoidable incidents. I’ve seen OSHA investigating everything from a vehicle accident to slip and falls to medical emergencies to falling objects. What’s important is making sure that the worker’s family is getting the answers they deserve. That’s where things can get challenging.
As important as OSHA is for worker safety in this country, they rarely focus on the needs of a family. They have their own job to worry about, and that can result in families being left in the dark for months. Naturally, that will lead to families seeking out independent investigators who can help them shed light on things. My hope is always to talk about this common issue so people know to take steps as soon as they can to follow up with the authorities. That way, if they decide authorities aren’t giving them good enough responses, they can look to other avenues sooner rather than later.
