Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Authorities reported that alcohol was a factor in the crash. The question is if they’re looking into where the alcohol came from. While people rightfully put a lot of focus on the drivers in these situations, the reality is there is often a negligent alcohol provider who also broke the law. When a bar or similar establishment over-serves someone, and people get hurt, they can face criminal investigations, fines, license suspensions, and even liability for resulting injuries. Yet when people put too much focus on one person, it often means the negligent alcohol providers are let off the hook. Hopefully steps are being taken here to make sure nothing important slips through the cracks.
