Accident Report

Calhoun County, MI — September 1, 2026, two pedestrians were killed in a truck accident at about 9 a.m. on Interstate 94 near Marengo.

Authorities said an eastbound semi-truck crashed into two men who were standing on the shoulder west of 22 1/2 Mile Road because their vehicle had a flat tire. The truck overturned after the collision.

Both pedestrians — a 51-year-old man from Gabrill, IN and a 40-year-old man from Aurora, IL — died from injuries suffered in the Marengo Township crash, according to authorities. Their names have not been made public yet.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries in the crash east of Marshall, authorities said.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Calhoun County crash at this time.

At this point, we don’t know why this truck strayed into the shoulder. Was the driver distracted or fatigued? Did he swerve to avoid another vehicle?
