How Did This Accident Occur?

It is not clear at this point what caused this crash. Was the truck going too fast? Did the SUV turn when it wasn’t safe? Was one of these drivers distracted? Did one of the vehicles have an issue with its brakes or steering mechanism? The best way to answer these questions, in my experience, is to wait until the investigation is complete.

Authorities likely will start by working to reconstruct this crash, using physical evidence, witness statements, data from the vehicles and any available video footage. Cell phone records could show what each driver was doing at the time, but a qualified expert should examine the vehicles if investigators suspect a mechanical problem contributed to this crash.

Most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for such inspections, but the injured woman and her family deserve to know as much as possible about this accident.
