Accident Report

Polk County, FL — August 3, 2026, two people were injured in a truck accident at about 3:50 p.m. on Interstate 4 near Lakeland.

Authorities said a westbound Lexus sedan crashed into a disabled semi-truck that was parked on left shoulder just west of State Road 33. The impact caused it to spin back onto the highway, where it was struck by another semi-truck.

The Lexus driver, a 20-year-old Winter Haven man, and his passenger, a 19-year-old Orlando man, were hospitalized with serious injuries after the crash, according to authorities. Their names have not been made public yet.

Neither truck driver was injured, authorities said.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Polk County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

It’s not clear at this point why the Lexus left the road, but I can’t help wondering why the truck was stopped on the left shoulder.

Authorities working to reconstruct this accident also should look at the trucking company that put that vehicle on the road. Was the truck overdue for any scheduled maintenance or repairs? Did the driver follow company policy when he pulled the truck off the road? Did the driver put out flares or warning triangles?

These questions matter as much as any other that will help investigators sort out what happened on I-4, in my experience. The two men in the Lexus and their families deserve to have a clear picture of what caused this crash.
