Accident Report
El Paso County, TX — August 29, 2026, two people were injured in an alleged drunk driver accident at about 12:15 am. on Mandeville Avenue.
Authorities said a 2024 Can-Am Maverick DS overturned several times after turning from Ponchatoula Street.
All five people who had been in the ATV were taken to the hospital for evaluation after the crash near Horizon City, according to authorities. Two teens, one 15 and one 16, suffered crushed fingers that could result in amputation.
The driver, 20, was charged with two counts of intoxication assault after he admitted to drinking before he took others on a “joy ride” in the ATV, authorities said.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the El Paso County crash at this time.
How Did This Accident Occur?
ATV accidents can be complicated for investigators since off-road vehicles are prone to range of mechanical issues, but authorities should look beyond the scene of this crash if a blood test confirms the driver was intoxicated.
That matters because under Texas law alcohol providers like bars or restaurants can share responsibility for injuries caused in crashes like this if the driver was served while obviously intoxicated before getting behind the wheel.
I don’t know if that is what happened here, but the injured teens and their families deserve to know everyone who may have played a role in this crash.
