Accident Report

April 13, 2026, a driver was injured after a truck versus building accident around 2:30 a.m. off of Route 3.

Preliminary information from officials says the crash occurred just off the Route 3 and Passaic Avenue intersection at Toptown Limo Ride.

Authorities say that an 18-wheeler was going along Route 3 at the time when the vehicle somehow lost control. The truck traveled off-road, and it crashed into the front of the LimoRide building.

Due to the accident, the truck driver reportedly had non-life-threatening injuries. One person had to be rescued from the building, but it appears they weren’t hurt.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

How Did This Accident Occur?

When people see an 18-wheeler run off-road at 2:30 in the morning, their first thought is likely that the driver fell asleep at the wheel. Frankly, that’s my first though, too. It brings up questions about the driver’s hours and the possibility they’re being pushed by their employer to push or break their limits. That could even lead to the discovery of a whole pattern of unsafe working conditions.

That said, I always discourage folks from jumping to conclusions. There may have been extenuating circumstances here. For example, has anyone inspected the truck for defects? If brakes went out, if a tire blew, if the steering mechanism failed, or if the trailer connection became unstable, that could easily cause an unavoidable crash. That’s rarely the sort of thing I see authorities look into on their own, so getting the full story here might not happen without more thorough independent investigations.

If anyone witnessed the crash or saw the truck prior to it losing control, is there anything not in the news you can share? Let me know in the comments.
