Accident Report
May 13, 2026, one person was injured following a semi-truck hit-and-run accident around 1:30 a.m. on Broadway.
Initial reports on the crash say that it took place at the intersection of Broadway and East 3rd Street off I-71 in downtown Cincinnati.
According to officials, a car was going through the intersection when police claim that driver ran the light and hit a semi-truck. The semi-truck then reportedly left the scene, but authorities located the truck and the truck driver.
Authorities say that the car driver had serious injuries due to the accident. Authorities arrested the truck driver for leaving the scene. Additional details are unavailable at this time.
How Did This Accident Occur?
As serious as it is that authorities believe the truck driver here fled the scene, they also allege that the car driver ran a red light. I’m not here to say if any of that is true. However, I do wonder where authorities came to this conclusion. Were there independent witnesses to the crash? Did they see video of the accident? Or, could it be their version of what happened is from the truck driver who fled the scene?
That may sound unusual, but I’ve actually handled truck accident investigations where authorities ultimately arrested a truck driver, yet they based their reports on that truck driver’s account of what went down. Meanwhile, the victim from the other car was too seriously injured to give their side of the story, so it was all just a one-sided affair until independent investigations could step in and clear up the facts.
Again, it’s possible everything played out here the way authorities say it did. I’ve just seen enough truck accidents in my career to know that it’s up to the evidence to say what happened. It remains to be seen how much evidence has been found here.
If anyone did see what happened here and can either confirm or contradict what authorities said in the news, let us know in the comments.
