Accident Report

July 25, 2026, two children were injured following a commercial truck accident at around noon along US Highway 80.

Investigators said that the crash took place at the intersection of US 80/Upshur Avenue and FM 2685. According to officials, a 42-year-old woman and three children were in a Dodge Journey going southeast. A Ford F-750 was going the same direction when it reportedly crashed into the Dodge.

Due to the collision, a 12-year-old and an 11-year-old from the Dodge reportedly had injuries. No other injuries were confirmed. Authorities say that the Ford truck driver was inattentive leading up to the crash, but it’s unclear if charges have been considered.

Investigations are ongoing.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Authorities blame this crash on inattention. If that’s indeed what happened here, what exactly caused that inattention? People might be quick to assume this is all open-and-shut because authorities blamed the truck driver for the crash. However, the things that can lead to inattention can have vastly different implications.

For example, I had one case where a truck driver caused a crash because he dropped a sandwich on the floor and was reaching trying to pick it up. It was obviously reckless and worth consequences, but the explanation began and ended at that mistake. Was it stupid? Definitely. Did it demand accountability? Absolutely. Was it any deeper than that? Not really.

Conversely, there was another crash where a truck driver was distracted while texting his supervisor. Further investigations found that the supervisor actually threatened to fire drivers who didn’t immediately respond to all texts and calls. That meant there was a deeper problem that needed to be rooted out. It led to a serious accident, and it would likely do so again if left unchallenged. So, accountability needed to reflect that issue to ensure that those behind the scenes who set the stage for that mistake to occur learned their lesson.

So, if it’s true that this happened due to inattention, was that just a momentary lapse by the driver, or was it the result of bigger problems? That’s up to investigations to say. If authorities are being thorough enough to dig beyond the surface-level details, that would be good to hear. Otherwise, getting the full story might require more thorough independent investigations.
