Accident Report

March 15, 2026, one person was injured due to a truck accident shortly after 11:00 a.m. along U.S. Highway 59.

According to authorities, a 62-year-old man was traveling in a southwest bound GMC Sierra on U.S. 59 in the vicinity northeast of the C.R. 1134 intersection when the accident took place. Officials indicate that a southwest bound Volvo truck failed to appropriately control its speed. A collision consequently occurred between the front-end of the Volvo and the rear-end of the Sierra. The impact apparently caused the Sierra to overturn. A Silverado with a trailer in tow was also somehow involved in the wreck.

Reports note that the driver of the Volvo had allegedly been using his cell phone at the time of the accident. The man from the Sierra reportedly sustained serious injuries as a result of the wreck. It does not appear that anyone else was hurt. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identity of the victim—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Preliminary reports indicate that there was reason to believe the driver of the truck was distracted by a cell phone at the time of the accident. While many people armed with that information would be content to cast all the blame on the truck driver, I’m hesitant to do so. I’ve been in this line of business for over three decades and, in that time, I’ve analyzed hundreds of truck accidents. That experience has solidified my belief that there is no such thing as a simple truck accident. They are all layered, and this one, I’m sure is no exception.

Hopefully investigators are doing a good job of being open-minded and thorough in their investigation. If they are, then they will be looking past the physical evidence at the scene and into the company with which the truck is affiliated. Is that company hiring and training their drivers in a way that should prevent accidents like this from happening? Or are their company culture and regulations lax about things like electronics that could be a distraction inside the truck cab? If, for any reason, the authorities’ investigation seems to be falling short, a third party investigation can always step in to take up that slack and make sure all the bases are covered.
