Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
This early in a truck wreck investigation, it’s important to make sure time-sensitive evidence is being secured. I’ve seen countless situations where authorities never bothered to pull vehicle data, dash cam video or video from nearby security cameras, inspection of the vehicles involved, including maintenance histories, or even drug and alcohol tests.
A lot of information can be lost in just days following a serious crash, and weeks later the chance of securing some evidence becomes even more grim. That’s why it helps to take steps early on either to ensure authorities are preserving evidence or otherwise getting independent professionals to step in if authorities are dropping the ball. The difference between a just resolution for victims and families and a crash completely slipping through the cracks can be having the right evidence before it’s lost.
