Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When accidents like this one occur, people might assume they result from simple driver errors or momentary lapses in judgment. However, in my experience, wrecks involving large commercial vehicles, such as a water tanker, often involve multiple contributing factors that require thorough investigation to fully understand what happened.
What caused the collision between the sedan and the water tanker? Did one of the vehicles attempt an unsafe lane change, or was the tanker traveling too close to the sedan? Were there distractions or sudden changes in speed that led to the crash? It’s also essential to consider whether mechanical issues, such as faulty brakes or steering on the tanker, played a role in its inability to avoid the collision.
Additionally, the trucking company’s involvement must be closely examined. Companies are responsible for ensuring their vehicles are roadworthy and that their drivers are adequately trained to safely handle large, heavy trucks. Was the tanker properly maintained and inspected? Were the driver’s actions consistent with professional safety standards? It’s also worth investigating whether company policies may have contributed to the crash, such as placing pressure on drivers to meet tight schedules or cutting corners on necessary vehicle upkeep.
Finally, understanding the extent of the damage and the vehicle configurations raises critical questions about safety. The sedan reportedly ended up wedged beneath the tanker—a potentially avoidable outcome with the use of underride guards or other safety equipment. Was the truck equipped with such safeguards, or did their absence contribute to the severity of the accident?
Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the accident. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain critical evidence, it’s essential to examine every factor to ensure those impacted by the incident receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
