Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

When accidents like this happen, it’s easy for people to assume they are simply the result of a mistake. However, based on my experience, crashes involving large trucks often have deeper, more complex causes that require thorough investigation.

In this incident, the circumstances leading to the crash and subsequent fire are still under investigation. It’s essential to determine why the 18-wheeler overturned and what caused the fire. Factors such as mechanical failure, improper loading of the trailer, or even driver fatigue should be carefully examined. Each of these elements can play a significant role in accidents involving large trucks, and understanding their contributions is crucial to preventing future incidents.

The fire resulting from the crash is particularly concerning. Fires in truck accidents can significantly complicate rescue efforts, increase the potential for injuries, and cause additional damage to both vehicles and infrastructure. Investigators will need to determine whether the fire was a direct result of the crash or if there were any other contributing factors, such as hazardous materials being transported or a mechanical issue that led to the ignition.

Additionally, the trucking company responsible for the 18-wheeler may share in the responsibility for the accident. If the company failed to enforce safety protocols, properly train their drivers, or ensure that their vehicles were in good working order, they could be held accountable for their role in the crash. Companies have a duty to maintain their vehicles and ensure that they are operated safely, particularly when transporting heavy loads on busy highways.

Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain vital evidence, it is crucial to consider every factor to ensure that those impacted by the crash receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
