Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

When accidents like this happen, people may be quick to assume they’re simply due to driver error or a momentary lapse in attention. However, in my experience, single-vehicle crashes involving large trucks are rarely so straightforward. These incidents often require examining multiple factors, including the vehicle’s mechanical condition, the driver’s state of mind, and any potential hazards along the roadway itself.

One significant factor that shouldn’t be overlooked is whether the trucking company played a role in this incident. Companies are responsible for ensuring that their trucks are regularly maintained and safe to operate, especially given the demands of long-haul driving. Mechanical failures, such as brake issues or steering problems, could easily lead to a crash like this one on a challenging curve. If any lapses in maintenance or safety checks are discovered, the trucking company could share responsibility for the harm their vehicle caused. Additionally, trucking companies must ensure that drivers have proper training and are fit to be on the road, especially when facing potential fatigue or challenging road conditions late at night.

Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the accident. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain critical evidence, it’s essential to consider every factor to ensure that those impacted by the accident receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
