Maverick County, TX — December 13, 2023, one person was killed in a truck accident at about 12:20 in the afternoon along State Loop 480.
According to reports, a 66-year-old man was traveling in a northbound Kenworth truck hauling a trailer on State Loop 480 in the vicinity some distance southwest of U.S. 277 when the accident took place.

The weather and road conditions in the area at the time were reported to have been rainy and wet. Officials indicate that, for unknown reasons, the 18-wheeler failed to safely maintain its lane of travel. It allegedly veered left and crossed over the center line and the southbound lane of the road before crashing through a guardrail. It then reportedly crashed into a bar ditch and continued down a concrete retention. The trailer and cab became detached from one another during the incident. The cab reportedly overturned, landing on its roof and crashing through a fence before coming to rest. The trailer, however, continued into the fenced property, coming to a stop next to the cab facing north. Both the cab and the trailer became engulfed in flames.
The 66-year-old man—the sole occupant of the vehicle—was found deceased just outside of the door of the cab. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identity of the victim—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
