Leonardtown, MD — March 6, 2025, one person was injured in a truck accident at about 11:45 a.m. on Point Lookout Road near Fairgrounds Road.
Authorities said a semi-truck crashed into an SUV at the intersection, causing the smaller vehicle to overturn.
The driver of the SUV, whose name has not been made public yet, was hospitalized with unspecified injuries, according to authorities. The truck driver was not injured.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the St. May’s County crash at this time. The accident is still under investigation.

When a semi-truck collides with an SUV at an intersection and causes it to overturn, the key question is how the crash happened and whether it could have been prevented. My experience handling truck accident cases has taught me that intersection crashes often involve issues with visibility, right-of-way decisions and braking distances, all of which need to be examined here.
One of the first things investigators should determine is whether the truck driver had the right of way. Did the truck run a red light or fail to yield? Large commercial vehicles take longer to stop than passenger vehicles, so even a slight misjudgment in timing can lead to serious collisions. Investigators should review traffic signals, any available surveillance footage and witness statements to confirm how the crash unfolded.
Another factor is whether visibility played a role. Were there obstructions — such as trees, signs or buildings — that made it difficult for either driver to see the other approaching? Some intersections have poor sight lines that increase the risk of collisions, particularly for larger vehicles with significant blind spots.
