How Did This Accident Occur?

With so little information available about how this accident took place, it’s tempting for people to jump to the conclusion that driver error must have been the cause. While that is certainly a possibility, I’ve been in this line of work long enough to know better than to make assumptions like that. Over the last three decades, I have seen plenty of truck accident cases in which evidence of less likely causes was unearthed by the investigations.

I’m certainly not trying to insinuate that I know more about this specific accident than anyone else outside of the investigation. I’m simply pointing out that, hypothetically, any number of things could have gone wrong with the truck to cause the accident. Did it have a tire blowout? Was there an issue with the throttle or the steering mechanism? Maybe something happened to cause brake failure at a critical moment? At this point, we just don’t know. But that does not mean that these questions can’t be answered.

An in-depth vehicle inspection done by a team of trained professionals in a laboratory setting would be able to bring to light any mechanical malfunctions or product defects that had a hand in the wreck which might otherwise fly under the radar. Hopefully, the investigators—whether the authorities or a third party—get one done.

After all, the people who were left behind by the victim deserve to understand not only how this accident occurred, but why. Vague assumptions based on surface-level investigation just won’t cut it.
