How Did This Accident Occur?
I certainly don’t know more about this than what’s in the news. However, I’ve seen enough serious truck wrecks on the interstate to know it’s usually the result of distracted driving. That’s why cellphones are one of the first things I expect accident reconstructionists to look into. Hopefully authorities here have already taken steps to preserve that evidence for analysis.
On top of that, however, it’s important to know investigators will look into more complex and less obvious factors, as well. I find that a good rule of thumb is to find out if they’ve secured electronic data from the vehicles involved in the crash. This data can show things like vehicle speed and braking inputs in the moments surrounding the crash. If authorities fail to look into that information, it’s often a sign they’re not really treating the crash as a high priority. That should be a warning sign for any family who wants to be sure they’re getting all the facts.
All said and done, authorities may show that they’re already looking at this crash from every angle. If it took more thorough independent investigations to get the whole story, though, it wouldn’t be anything new.
