Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Right now, the exact cause of the crash remains unconfirmed. Getting those kinds of details can end up being more complex than folks may realize.

After a single-vehicle wreck, all kinds of possible factors warrant attention. Mechanical issues, manufacturing defects, road hazards, medical conditions, faulty brakes or tires, etc. Authorities usually know this, but they’re often pressured to move on to other responsibilities their superiors deem to be more important. As a result, they rarely ever look beyond the more common factors like speeding, distraction, or drunk driving. Common or not, a narrow focus like that is bound to miss something eventually.

That’s why a significant portion of the calls I get are about single-vehicle wrecks. If they’re not getting enough attention, it can leave victims and families feeling unsatisfied with the answers they’re getting. Naturally, that leads to concerns that something important could be slipping through the cracks. I can only hope nothing important went overlooked here, but I tend not to hold my breath that crashes like this are handled properly on the first go-around.
