Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
An intersection like this is no doubt going to be decently busy at this time of day. That brings up the challenge that authorities are too often having to divide their time between the accident investigations and clearing the scene. In my experience, the latter tends to be prioritized if only because authorities don’t always have the time or tools needed to do a proper accident reconstruction. That’s when important details start to slip through the cracks.
As such, it’s not unusual that a lot of people seek secondary opinions instead of solely relying on authorities. It’s not that police can’t do the job—it’s that they might not be able to, and a crash is one of the most important things for any family affected by one. They deserve to know they’re getting all the facts, and sometimes that takes more than one set of eyes looking things over thoroughly.
