Lubbock, TX — December 16, 2023, Tonya Kay Reynolds was injured following a car accident around 1:00 a.m. along 4th Street.
Investigators said in preliminary statements on the crash that it occurred off the corner of 4th Street and Hall Avenue.

According to officials, 44-year-old Tonya Reynolds was in a Ford Focus which was on westbound lanes of 4th Street. It’s unclear whether or not Reynolds’s vehicle was moving at the time. While it was there, it appears a Dodge Ram crashed into Reynolds from behind. As a result, Reynolds reportedly had serious injuries. The other driver apparently wasn’t hurt.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
What’s a bit unusual to me is the apparent disparity between conditions of those involved in the wreck. It’s understandable that someone in a pickup may be better off than someone in a sedan, but one person reportedly having serious injuries while the other person seems unscathed raises a red flag. Could it be that a safety feature meant to prevent those serious injuries failed to function properly? Did authorities consider that it wasn’t the crash itself responsible for the injuries but rather factors the drivers had no control over? If not, there could be more to this story.
