Accident Report

Irving, TX — June 19, 2026, Tony July Vasquez was killed in an alleged drunk driver accident at about 2:50 a.m. in the 2800 block of Cantrell Street.

Authorities said a Honda Civic hit a person on a motorized scooter near the intersection with Cibola Drive before driving away.

The scooter rider, 31-year-old Tony July Vasquez, died the next day from injuries suffered in the crash, according to authorities.

Authorities identified the vehicle involved in the crash as a Honda Civic based on evidence from the scene and located the damaged vehicle about a block away, according to news accounts. A man exiting a nearby residence admitted to hitting something while he had been driving someone to an area hotel, but he did not see what it was.

The man, 36, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, authorities said, but he is expected to face upgraded charges since the victim died.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Dallas County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Since the Honda driver reportedly has admitted to hitting the victim, authorities should be prepared to look into where he had been drinking before the crash if blood tests prove he was intoxicated.

That matters because under Texas law alcohol providers can share responsibility for injuries caused by a patron who was served while obviously intoxicated. I don’t know if that applies in this instance, but it bears investigating so the victim’s family knows everyone who may have played a role in this crash.
