Accident Report
March 20, 2026, Todd Pendleton and Bryan Jenkins were killed in a firetruck rollover accident at around 3:00 a.m. along East Redbud Road.
According to current reports, the crash took place off the corner of East Redbud Road and Southeast 12th Avenue.
Authorities say that 62-year-old Todd Pendleton and 64-year-old Bryan Jenkins were in a fire department tanker truck responding to a call. While doing so, the truck somehow lost control and overturned. Due to this, both Todd Pendleton and Bryan Jenkins were killed.
It’s unclear if any other firefighters were involved in the crash. Additional details are unavailable at this time.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Reports haven’t been clear on who was driving the truck, and I think that’s an important detail to clear up. Put simply, I am very skeptical that this crash happened due to any sort of driver error. Let me explain why.
The news explains that the two men killed in this crash were veteran firefighters—one was a 12 year veteran and the other 35 years. That’s a whole lot of experience responding to calls. It seems highly unlikely to me that firefighters with that level of experience would ever go too fast, drive distracted, or otherwise make an easily avoidable mistake. Not impossible, of course. But if someone told me that someone who responded to emergencies for 12 to 35 years lost control of their truck, I’d wonder if something unavoidable like a tire blowout or mechanical issue is what caused it rather than assuming some with that level of experience made a mistake.
Of course, that all depends on what the evidence has to say. Hopefully authorities have experienced accident reconstructionists (their own or independent professionals) inspecting the vehicle and the roadway for anything unusual. As the investigations continue, if anyone knows something important the news left out, let me know in the comments.
