Accident Report

Jersey City, NJ — June 10, 2026, three pedestrians were injured in a truck accident at about 8:45 a.m. in the 500 block of Ocean Avenue.

Authorities said a woman and two children were crossing the street in a crosswalk when the traffic light changed and they were hit by a semi-truck near Fred W. Martin Center for the Arts Elementary School. There was a crossing guard in place at the intersection at the time.

The pedestrians were hospitalized with unspecified injuries after the collision at the intersection with Wilkinson Avenue, according to authorities.

The truck driver remained on the scene, authorities said, but is not facing any charges at this time.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Hudson County crash.

How Did This Accident Occur?

It is not clear how this crash happened, with pedestrians using a crosswalk and a crossing guard on duty. Was the truck driver distracted, or in a hurry? Did driver have a clear view of the crosswalk before the light turned green? Did the truck have a throttle problem that caused unexpected acceleration? I don’t claim to know the answers, but these are the kind of questions that investigators should consider as they work to reconstrut this accident.

Investigators likely will start by gathering physical evidence, witness statements, data from the truck and any available video footage. Dash-cam footage, if available, could show what the driver saw, or didn’t see, while cell phone records could show if the truck driver was texting or interacting with an app.

A qualified expert should examine the truck if authorities suspect a mechanical issue contributed to this crash, since most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for that kind of inspection.

A thorough investigation should provide the injured pedestrians and their family with a clear explanation of what happened on Ocean Avenue.
