Mabank, TX — March 5, 2026, a teenage girl was killed in a car accident at about 6:20 a.m. on North Third Street/State Highway 198.

A preliminary accident report indicates that a 2011 Volkswagen CC was heading north on Morris Road when it collided with an eastbound 2014 Dodge Ram 3500.

The Volkswagen driver, a 16-year-old sophomore at Kemp High School, died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to the report.

The three men in the pickup were not injured, the report states.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Kaufman County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Which one of these vehicles had the right of way? That appears to be the primary question for investigators to answer after this crash, but even knowing that doesn’t tell us why this accident happened.

Did the Volkswagen have an issue with its brakes? Did the Dodge pickup experience unexpected acceleration before the crash?

Investigators should consider these possibilities as they scrutinize evidence from the scene, data from both vehicles and available witness accounts and traffic camera footage, even if police don’t have the technical expertise for a forensic examination. That may warrant an outside investigator.
