How Did This Accident Occur?
A lot of people see a single-vehicle crash involving a teen driver, and they just assume the young driver was being reckless. Frankly, that’s common. I wouldn’t suggest ignoring things like unsafe speeds or distracted driving. But I always talk about the importance of investigating even uncommon possible factors following a crash.
For example, what if the vehicle experienced a tire blowout? That’s usually not something drivers can avoid. But during investigations, authorities sometimes lack the experience or tools to tell the difference between a tire blowing out and causing a wreck versus a tire that blows out as a result of damage from the crash. And with a driver that’s seriously injured, they may not be in a position to give their side of the story.
That’s why it’s important to make sure experienced and well-equipped professionals look into crashes as soon as possible. Jumping to conclusions just based on a driver’s age is only going to result in someone being blamed for something that wasn’t their fault. Hopefully steps are being taken here to give the crash the unbiased attention it deserves.
Were you ever blamed for something you couldn’t avoid when you were a young driver? Tell me about it in the comments.
