The causal factors that led to the accident are still unclear. Officials indicate that, for unknown reasons, the pickup truck failed to safely navigate a curve in the roadway. It reportedly veered left, crossing over the northbound lane and partially leaving the road where it collided with a mailbox. At that point, the pickup overcorrected to the right, crossing back over both lanes of the road before leaving the roadway altogether. It then allegedly went into a skid in a grassy area before overturning, rolling an unknown number of times before coming to a stop resting on its wheels.

Wooldridge was reportedly ejected from the pickup during the course of the accident. He incurred suspected severe injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to a local medical facility by emergency medical services in order to receive necessary treatment.
