How Did This Accident Occur?

It is not clear at this point how these trucks came into contact. Did one rear-end the other, or did they collide while changing lanes? Investigators will sort that out as they go over evidence from the scene and data from the trucks’ engine control modules. Any available video footage of the crash should help, but that still doesn’t tell us why this crash happened.

Was one driver distracted, maybe by a cell phone? Or did a mechanical issue compromise one truck’s brakes or steering mechanism? Figuring out the answers to these questions will mean a deeper dive, into phone records and a forensic examination of both trucks. That will provide the clearest possible view of what happened for the injured driver and his family.
