UPDATE (April 1, 2024): Reports have recently been released which clarify what occurred leading up to and during this accident. According to these reports, 46-year-old Steve Carmona was traveling in an eastbound Dodge Caravan on Interstate Highway 10 when the accident took place. Traffic conditions were reportedly congested, and a Dodge Ram ahead of the Caravan apparently braked because of it. The Caravan swerved into a different lane in an attempt to avoid a collision with the Ram, but still reportedly crashed into a Hyundai Veloster. The collision caused the Veloster to crash into both a Dodge Ram and an 18-wheeler. After being hit by the Volester, the 18-wheeler’s front tire blew out, after which it jackknifed and lost its load.

During the course of the accident, Carmona was reportedly ejected from the Caravan. Apparently, the loose contents from the 18-wheeler gave Carmona fatal injuries. No other injuries have been reported.
