Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
A driver running a light seems pretty darn open-and-shut, but I always tell folks that car accidents are rarely as simple as just finding someone to blame. At the end of the day, getting victims and families the resolution they deserve requires a lot of clear evidence and legal maneuvering.
Police might issue citations or charges to a reckless driver, but that’s for their own purposes. Their efforts alone might not overlap with the needs of a family. That’s why there often needs to be independent investigations to verify the police reports and preserve any other important evidence. If that doesn’t happen, it will likely make the path forward for the victims and families needlessly challenging.
