How Did This Accident Occur?
Most people figure that a traffic citation is the final word on an accident, but in my experience it is just the result of officers’ initial read of the crash at the scene. The resulting investigation will take a deeper look at the crash, poring over evidence from the scene, data from the vehicles and any available video of the collision.
That may confirm that the Chevrolet driver indeed did cause this crash by running a red light, or it could show there was a problem with the timing of the intersection’s traffic lights. Or a forensic examination of the car may determine that its brakes failed before the crash. Such an examination must happen quickly before the Chevrolet is scrapped or repaired.
All of these steps are necessary to ensure everyone affected by this crash gets the answers they deserve about what happened at the intersection of Reed and Scott.
