Corpus Christi, TX — March 17, 2024, Sonjia Lewis was killed as the result of a pedestrian accident at around 10:15 p.m. along Airline Road.
Preliminary details about the accident say that it took place off the corner of Airline Road and Holly Road.
According to officials, 41-year-old Sonjia Lewis was walking at the time and attempted to cross Airline Road. While doing so, at least one driver struck Lewis. Lewis was killed as a result.
Authorities say one driver was at the scene and wasn’t charged. Reports say authorities were looking for a “dark-colored vehicle,” but they didn’t say if that vehicle was directly involved in the accident or not. Investigations are ongoing.

My hope is authorities looking for another vehicle here is a sign they’re actually giving this incident the attention it deserves. Too often, I’ve had pedestrian accident cases where authorities all but moved on as soon as they could regardless of whether or not they’d finished their investigations. Perhaps authorities haven’t been productive behind the scenes, but these initial statements at least provide some encouragement that someone is working to get answers here.
