Reagan County, TX — September 18, 2024, one person was injured in a single-vehicle truck accident at approximately 11:45 a.m. along U.S. Highway 67.

According to authorities, a 59-year-old man from Los Lunas, New Mexico, was traveling in an eastbound Freightliner Cascadia 18-wheeler on U.S. 67 in the vicinity of Owens Road when the accident took place.

Officials indicate that, for reasons yet to be confirmed, the truck experienced tire failure, causing it to veer right and leave the roadway, crashing into a barrow ditch. It then continued forward, crashing into a concrete drainage ditch before going airborne. After landing, it apparently continued onward, crashing through a fence before coming to an eventual stop in a pasture.

Authorities state that inspections of the tires of the 18-wheeler and its towed trailer showed a significant amount of wear and lack of maintenance through tire replacement.
