Accident Report
March 24, 2026, one person lost their life due to a single-car accident that took place along Interstate Highway 20.
According to authorities, one person was traveling in a westbound motor vehicle on I-20 near C.R. 425 when the accident occurred. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the vehicle swerved into the grassy median before heading off of the C.R. 425 bridge. It came to a stop after colliding with a concrete embankment where it became fully engulfed in flames.
The person who had been behind the wheel reportedly sustained fatal injuries over the course of the accident. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identity of the victim—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Most people will look at this accident and assume that the ubiquitous “driver error” was behind it. Is that a safe bet? Honestly, yes. Human error, after all, plays a role in the majority of car accidents. However, I’ve been doing this job for over thirty years. In that time, I’ve analyzed hundreds of single-car accidents. I’ve seen cases where, though it appeared cut and dried in the beginning, the investigations later unearthed problems with the vehicles were the catalysts of the accidents.
To be transparent, I don’t know more about this specific accident than anyone else outside of the investigation. But allow me to put forward a hypothetical. What if the vehicle was experiencing an issue with the throttle? If the throttle was stuck in the open position, then the speeds would have been difficult—if not impossible—for the driver to control. The resulting collision would absolutely be understandable in that case.
On top of that, the vehicle did catch on fire, according to reports. Unlike what is often depicted in Hollywood, vehicle collisions don’t often end in fire. There have to be pretty extenuating circumstances for that to happen. What most people don’t know is that an open throttle increases the risk of a fire in the event of a collision.
Hopefully the authorities who are investigating this accident are looking closely at these aspects of the wreck. If not, then a third party investigation can always be brought in to take up that slack. After all, the people left behind by the victim deserve to have answers backed by solid evidence, not just convenient excuses that heap possibly unmerited blame on the shoulders of the deceased.
