UPDATE (February 1, 2024): Recent reports have been released which clarify what happened during this accident. According to these reports, a 21-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man were allegedly passengers in a northbound Chevrolet SS on Martin Luther King Jr. Freeway, U.S. 287, in the vicinity of Mitchell Boulevard when the accident occurred.
Officials indicate that, for unknown reasons, the vehicle veered off of the roadway and onto a grassy median where it overturned, rolling an unknown number of times and striking a sign post and a utility pole before coming to a stop resting on its roof.
Both the man and the woman were reportedly ejected from the vehicle during the crash. Each incurred suspected severe injuries as a result of the accident; they were transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive treatment. It is still unclear, at this point, whether or not there was a third occupant in the vehicle.
