Accident Report
March 5, 2026, a woman was injured in a single-car accident at approximately 9:30 p.m. along Farm to Market 2767 (Old Kilgore Highway).
According to authorities, a 41-year-old woman was traveling in an eastbound Nissan Altima on Old Kilgore Highway in the vicinity between the C.R. 3120 and C.R. 241 intersections when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for reasons yet to be confirmed, the Altima failed to safely maintain its lane of travel. It was consequently involved in a single-vehicle collision in which it apparently struck a tree and overturned.
The woman reportedly sustained serious injuries over the course of the accident. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identities of the victims—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Despite often being listed as a cause in accident reports, “failure to maintain lane of travel” is not a cause; it is a symptom. What investigators need to do is find out what led to the lane deviation. Hopefully they are being open-minded and meticulous in that investigation instead of just slapping the ubiquitous “driver error” label on it and moving on with their day.
To be clear, I’m not saying I know anything more about this particular accident than anyone else. I’ve just seen examples over the years of accidents that appear one way on the surface, but are wholly different when the layers are pulled back. For example, what if the vehicle deviated from its lane because of a steering issue or a tire blowout? Either one is a possibility until they are ruled out by a vehicle inspection.
If the authorities, for any reason, fail to take that step, an outside investigation can take up that slack in order to make sure that all bases are covered. After all, the woman who was so hurt by this wreck deserves to have real answers with solid evidence to back them up; she certainly does not need the additional burden of unmerited blame as she works toward healing.
