UPDATE (February 23, 2024): Recent reports have been released in regards to this incident which identify the identities of those involved. The two people who were occupants of the Dodge Ram pickup truck were 54-year-old James Alan Mulder and 52-year-old Karen Weiss Mulder. The sole occupant of the Chevy Tahoe was 56-year-old Shirley Jean Freeman.

Cooke County, TX — February 2, 2024, two people were killed and another person was injured in a two-vehicle accident on Farm to Market 1630.

According to authorities, one person was traveling in an eastbound Chevy Tahoe along Farm to market 1630 in the vicinity southwest of Gainesville when the accident took place.

The causal factors that led to the accident are still unclear. Officials indicate that, for unknown reasons, the Tahoe veered off of the right side of the road before overcorrecting and crossing over into the westbound lane of the roadway. This resulted in a collision with an oncoming Dodge Ram occupied by two people.

The driver of the Tahoe and the passenger of the pickup truck both incurred fatal injuries due to the wreck and were declared deceased at the scene of the accident. The driver of the pickup truck incurred suspected critical injuries and was transported to a local medical facility in order to receive immediate treatment. However, they were ultimately unable to overcome their injuries, having later been declared deceased.

Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identities of the victims—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
