Accident Report

October 6, 2026, Shelia Parker and Ashley Franks were killed and another person was injured in a truck accident at about 9:00 a.m. on S.H. 30.

According to authorities, two New Albany women—57-year-old Shelia Parker and 42-year-old Ashley Franks—were traveling in an SUV on State Highway 30 in Union County when the accident took place. Details surrounding the accident—including the exact location of the wreck—remain scarce. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a collision occurred between the SUV and a truck.

Both Parker and Franks reportedly sustained fatal injuries over the course of the accident. The person who had been behind the wheel of the truck suffered moderate injuries, as well, according to reports. They were transported to an area medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. Additional information pertaining to this incident is not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Without more details, there will undoubtedly be some folks who are quick to blame this accident on the ubiquitous “driver error”. While things like fatigue, distraction, impairment, et cetera could have been factors, I’m not willing to settle on that conclusion before the investigation is complete. Why? Because I have been in this line of business for over three decades. There have been plenty of cases in which thorough investigation ended up uncovering evidence of less likely causes. Who’s to say that won’t be the case here, as well?

That being said, I’m certainly not trying to imply that I am somehow privy to more details about this specific accident than are already available to the public. I just want to point out that, hypothetically, the wreck could have been a result of something gone wrong with either the SUV or the truck. Was there a tire blowout? What about brake failure? Have things like throttle issues or steering column problems been considered?

In-depth vehicle inspections would be able to bring to light any mechanical malfunctions or product defects that might otherwise have gone unnoticed. Hopefully investigators—whether the authorities or, if need be, a third party—get those done. If the truck involved was a commercial vehicle, then the inspection log and maintenance history should also be scrutinized in order to see whether or not regular inspections or necessary maintenance were put off, putting an unsafe truck on public roadways.

In the end, the loved ones left behind by the victims deserve to be given a clear and detailed understanding of not only how the wreck occurred, but also why. That kind of clarity—real answers backed by solid evidence—is unlikely to be provided by surface-level investigation.
