Accident Report
April 25, 2026, Shamonica Jones and one other were injured after an alleged drunk driver accident at 12:18 a.m. along Dallas North Tollway.
Investigators said that the crash took place along the southbound lanes of the Dallas North Tollway near University Boulevard. It appears that 33-year-old Shamonica Jones was in an Infiniti going southbound along with a Hyundai Elantra. A Jeep Compass was reportedly on the wrong side of the road driving into oncoming traffic. As a result, it crashed with the Hyundai and the Infiniti.
Both Shamonica Jones and the wrong-way driver reportedly had serious injuries. Authorities allege that the wrong-way driver was nearly three times the legal limit for drunk driving. They recommended charges for intoxication assault.

How Did This Accident Occur?
Reading these reports—if the allegations are true—the cause of this crash seems pretty straight-forward. If someone was nearly three times the legal limit and driving into oncoming traffic, that would certainly explain a resulting collision. But just saying that the wrong-way driver was drunk likely wouldn’t tell the whole story. Many of the hundreds of drunk driving accident investigations I’ve been a part of involved wrong-way drivers. In almost every crash like this, further investigations will show that a negligent alcohol provider recklessly and unlawfully over-served the drunk driver. Let me give an example to show why that matters.
I had this case a while back where a drunk driver drove into oncoming traffic, hit a family head-on, and nearly got a kid killed. When the family came to us, we asked if authorities found out where the driver had been drinking. Apparently authorities never even bothered to look into that—an oversight that’s unfortunately common. So, we started digging, and we found the bar where the driver had been drinking.
Evidence clearly showed that the guy drank to the point he could barely walk to and from the bathroom without falling over. Despite these obvious signs of intoxication, servers kept pouring drink after drink. That’s when that bar broke the law, and Texas law says bars that over-serve people who then cause an accident due to their intoxication can be responsible for contributing to that accident. So, both that drunk driver and that bar had to answer for their actions.
While it’s possible that this accident all comes down to one individual’s reckless decision to drink and drive, experience tells me that’s not very likely. It’s far more likely that an extremely drunk driver getting on the wrong side of the tollway early Saturday morning was drinking at a local establishment. As such, I wouldn’t consider an investigation into this crash complete if authorities still don’t know where the alcohol came from. Once that information comes to light, steps can be taken to ensure there is full accountability from all responsible parties.
