UPDATE (August 13, 2025): Authorities say the suspect runaway driver has been arrested as of August 11 in connection with the death of Seth Rains. That alleged runaway driver reportedly faces a charge for collision involving death.
The news also shows information that the alleged runaway driver was seen leaving a nightclub. Have authorities looked for any other evidence at that nightclub? I’ve handled many cases involving bars, club, and restaurants, and they often have critical evidence to dig into. Credit card statements, receipts, security footage, and other details might shed light on what led to the accident itself and whether or not there are other potential legal consequences that need to be considered.
Dallas, TX — July 27, 2025, Seth Rains was killed as the result of a hit-and-run accident at around 2:40 a.m. on Market Center Boulevard.
Initial details about the collision say that the incident happened at the intersection of Market Center Boulevard and Turtle Creek Boulevard.
According to officials, 23-year-old Seth Rains and others were on foot at the time following a concert in Deep Ellum. While crossing the intersection at Market Center and Turtle Creek, details say a passing vehicle struck Seth Rains. That vehicle—described as a dark-colored, four-door “luxury sedan.”
Due to the collision, Seth Rains was killed. There were no other reported injuries. It does not appear that anyone has been arrested at this time.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
With a situation like this, one of the best things authorities can do is continue to spread details to the public. One of the best tools investigators have is the community, as someone is often able to connect dots the authorities couldn’t. I’ve seen hit-and-runs where neighbors, co-workers, acquaintances, and even family members or romantic partners have come forward to identify a runaway driver. The same could very well happen here, but it’s imperative that authorities don’t simply move on or treat this accident like it’s a low priority.
