July 23, 2026, eight people were injured following a semi-truck accident at around 9:15 p.m. along West 12th Street.
According to initial details about the accident, it happened in the area of the West 12th Street and Myrtle Street.
Investigators said that a semi-truck going through the intersection ran a light, and it crashed into approximately nine vehicles. As a result, eight people reportedly had injuries.
Authorities allege that the truck driver tried to flee the scene, had alcohol in their possession, and was impaired at the time. They reportedly recommended multiple charges, including for DUI.
Investigations are ongoing.
How Did This Accident Occur?
If these very serious allegations are true, then alcohol could absolutely explain how a crash like this might occur. In my experience, though, these situations often start long before the driver gets behind the wheel. After all, it’s pretty unlikely someone just wakes up one day, decides to get drunk, and hops in a commercial vehicle. It ‘s a lot more likely there were previous signs of a problem—signs an attentive, responsible employer should be able to catch. Could that have happened here? Was there an employer whose negligence allowed someone behind the wheel that was capable of driving drunk, causing a serious crash, and trying to flee the scene? If nothing else, I wouldn’t consider any investigations complete until they can answer that question one way or another.
