Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
The exact factors surrounding a serious truck wreck are almost never clear right away. As investigations continue, though, it’s important to follow up early with the authorities and make sure they’re looking at the right details.
Is the crash being handled by professionals with the right training and equipment? Are authorities examining the vehicles for defects? Are they pulling data from the vehicles’ control modules? Are they pulling cellphone records? Is there video of the crash? Have authorities recorded statements from independent witnesses?
Likely or not, all possible factors need careful attention. If authorities can show they’re taking those steps, that can be a significant weight off the shoulders of victims and families. But if authorities show there are areas they’re not looking at, that could mean important details are slipping through the cracks.
